Municipal Autonomous Institution «Sports School «Start» is the leading organization of the city of Urai in the field of physical culture and sports. The department of sports training «Start» includes: departments of judo, swimming, sports acrobatics, biathlon, sections of mini-football, handball, hockey, sambo, Nordic all-around, boxing, powerlifting, figure skating, and model sports. More than 1,500 athletes are engaged in bright spacious halls, swimming pools and an ice rink. In addition to sports training, additional general development programs (PFDO) are being implemented in sports: sports tourism, sports climbing, cheerleading, airplane model sports, hockey, figure skating, boxing, mini-football, sambo, judo, sports acrobatics, powerlifting. The institution organizes and conducts physical culture and sports events within the framework of the All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Complex «Ready for Work and Defense» (TRP), organizes and conducts official competitions of various ranks, both urban and district significance, and trains the city's national teams.
