Mount Neroka

Mount Neroka (1645 m.) is a sacred place for the Mansi people and one of the highest points of the Circumpolar Urals. The name has many interpretations: "old man mountain", "man mountain", and "lord of the mountains".

The border between Komi and Yugra, Europe and Asia runs along its top. There are legends associated with Neroka: only men from the Mansi people can climb it, and they must ask permission from the mountain. Set a table by the campfire, appease the patron spirit. If you invade without permission, the "old mountain" will turn the intruder into stone.

Not everyone will be allowed by the instructors to conquer — health is important. Those who are lucky will enjoy magnificent views from the top. Six hours up the boulders and the same amount back is worth it.

If you don't have enough preparation, go hiking to the Zeya Lakes — they will compete with Neroka in greatness.
