Stele-memorial sign "to the discoverers of the land of Ugra»
The place where the stele is located-a memorial sign to The "discoverers of the land of Ugra", is considered the highest point of Khanty-Mansiysk. It is from here that you can enjoy a panoramic bird's-eye view of the historical part of the city – Samarovo and the Irtysh river. This mountain reaches a height of 110 meters and is called the Commissar.
The monument, designed by Moscow architect and muralist Karen Saprichyan, was erected here in 2003. According to the author, it should resemble the Khanty chum, the Cossack observation tower and an oil rig.
That is why the stele is a three-sided pyramid. Its height is 62 meters. On each of the faces there is a relief panel that symbolizes different epochs: the ancient period of development of Ugra, the era of the conquest of Siberia by Yermak and the moment when the mass development of oil and gas fields began.
By the way, this is the only stele in the area that can be exploited. Inside it is divided into three levels with the interior in the style of hi-tech. It uses the theme of water as a symbol of changing time and life. The building itself is made of glass and granite. At night, it is beautifully lit – there are more than 100 color programs that create up to 1000 different shades. Therefore, the building is clearly visible even from the embankment.
The upper observation deck inside the building is not functioning now. However, you can also enjoy the city view from the street platform. It also offers an incredible panorama. In summer, it is one of the best places in the city to watch the sunset.
