Municipal Cultural Institution "Lyantorsky Khanty Ethnographic Museum"

The official date of creation of the Khanty Khanty Ethnographic Museum is November 29, 1989. The first exposition was based on a collection of ethnographic objects by Alexander Kulikov, an ethnographer by vocation. In January 1990, Anatoly Subbotin, a local old-timer and hunter who is fond of taxidermy, donated a collection of stuffed animals and birds to the museum. All this provided the basis for the development of the museum. Today, the museum's collections number more than 12,000 exhibits. The main part of them are collections on ethnography. Subjects on local history, archeology, and painting are also widely represented. The museum's funds carefully store documents, letters, photographs and other evidence of the history of Lantor. Museum visitors can see a variety of stationary expositions: "Reindeer Husbandry", "Traditional Khanty buildings", "Sacred Labaz", "Fishing", "Musical instruments", "Clothing", "Hunting", "Wildlife", "Gathering", "Household utensils", "Stationary dwelling", "Archeology". The main task of the museum was and remains to recreate and preserve for future generations the original culture, way of life of the ancient indigenous people; conducting research and organizing cultural and educational activities. In 1994, an ethnographic complex of Khanty architecture was built on the territory adjacent to the museum building. Now the architectural buildings are a kind of open-air exposition. The seasonal camps of the museum introduce visitors to the architecture, lifestyle and lifestyle of the Pym Khanty. These are six buildings: winter, spring, summer, autumn, hunting houses and a house for a woman in labor. Nearby there are a deer pen, two smoke holes, household warehouses, sheds for storing sleds and other means of transportation, a sacred warehouse, a fish house (a hut for storing fish), sheds for storing berries, a cellar, a smokehouse, bread ovens, poles for drying clothes and nets, a bear trap. In 1995, the first archaeological expedition was organized jointly with the archaeological laboratory of the Ural University under the leadership of V.M. Morozov, which marked the beginning of the museum's archaeological collection and replenished the permanent exhibition with the archaeology section. Every year, national holidays are held on the territory of the museum: "Crow's Day", "Gifts of the land of Pimsk", the summer meeting holiday "Wagtail", the ritual holiday "Petrov Hatl", events on programs aimed at the development of tourism "Welcome to the camp", "Visiting the Nyanya (bread)". Exhibitions and competitions "Khanty motives", "Folk craftsmen" are held annually. The "Night at the Museum" and "Night of the Arts" campaigns are very popular among the residents of the city. The newlyweds are invited to hold a stylized wedding ceremony "Hey Verne" ("Together") on the territory of the museum, sanctifying the bonds of marriage according to the traditions of the Khanty people. From 2011 to 2013, as well as from 2015 to 2016, the museum was the winner of the regional competition "Museum of the Year". The names of the museum's employees are annually entered on the Honor Board of the culture branch of the Surgut district and on the Honor Board of the cultural workers of the city of Lyantor. The museum staff is working on research topics, communicating with informants, going on ethnographic expeditions to the camps. The acquired knowledge is used in the further work of the museum: holding events and holidays, traditional and stylized rituals, publishing articles in the media, describing the collections of the main fund of the museum and many others. Today, the Lyantor Museum is a full complex that preserves not only the history of the indigenous population, but also documentary materials, exhibits reflecting the history of the city of Lyantor, telling about contemporaries who glorified it, preserves the memory of the participants of the Great Patriotic War, carries out educational and cultural activities.
