Nizhnevartovsk Museum of Local Lore
The exhibition halls of the Nizhnevartovsk Museum of Local Lore feature thematic exhibitions dedicated to the nature, history and culture of the city of Nizhnevartovsk and the region.
The exhibition "In the lands of Urmans and swamps" tells about the natural riches of the nature of the region. The natural science collection of the museum, collections of paleontology and geology are presented here. The remains of ancient animals, such as mammoth, bison and woolly rhinoceros, as well as fossils of animals and plants preserved in stone, will attract special attention of visitors. A separate part of the exhibition is dedicated to the animal world of the region. Here you can get acquainted in detail with what birds and animals live near rivers, lakes and swamps, in forests; how they look and behave in the wild.
The exhibition "From Vakh to Agan" invites the visitor to get acquainted with the culture of the indigenous peoples of the North – the Agan and Vakh Khanty, forest Nenets. There are complexes of traditional housing and household items, hunting and fishing, as well as summer and winter clothing and shoes. At the exhibition, visitors will see a mock-up of a plague, children's birch bark cradles, dishes made of wood and birch bark. Women's, men's and children's clothing is decorated with traditional patterns of fabric and beads. A special place at the exhibition is given to the oblas boat and fishing tools, among the hunting items are several types of arrows, traps.
By the 45th anniversary of the city of Nizhnevartovsk, a new exhibition "From the village to the city. The history of the region of the XVIII–XX centuries", which introduces the history of the city from the Vartovsky yurts of Ostyatsky to the formation of the "Capital of Samotlor". The exposition covers the main stages of the development of the city and the region – the history of the first settlements, the construction of the church, the life of the village of Nizhnevartovsk, the years of the Great Patriotic War and, of course, the discovery of the Samotlor oil field and the construction of the city.
