The name "plaster" comes from the Greek word "γύψος" (gypsos). The Greeks were among the first to use plaster in construction. In Ancient Egypt, plaster was used as mortar or plaster, while alabaster or selenite (varieties of plaster) were used to make statuettes, vases, interior items, and transparent plates that were installed instead of window glass.
