A memorial to the pioneers

Geologist, oilman and Builder-three collective images of specialists became the main figures of the Memorial to the pioneers, which was installed in Megion in 2003. After all, people of these three professions were at the origins of the development of our region as the main oil producer in Russia. Geologists were the first to land here. After the exploration, the oilmen arrived. And behind them – builders to build houses and build a railway. The memorial with a deep meaning was designed by the local architect G. I. Boyko. You can find his creation on the embankment of the Megi river. Figures of the founders of the oil industry in Ugra are placed around a huge Golden dome. It is nothing but a symbol of oil. A drop of «black gold» stands on a high pedestal. It depicts birds, animals and fish – after all, our region is rich not only in minerals. In the taiga lies a huge natural wealth. The composition is crowned by an oil rig with the coat of arms of Megion with a black sable-also a symbol of oil and gas production and fur wealth.
