Bust of S.N. Urusov

The name of the legendary drilling master Semyon Urusov, Hero of Socialist Labor and honorary citizen of the city of Urai, is at the origins of West Siberian oil. On June 21, 1960, his team of the Shaim expedition discovered the first industrial Siberian oil from the R-6 well, marking the beginning of the development of the riches of Western Siberia. Later, under Urusov's leadership, the Trekhozernoye, Mortymyinskoye, Teterevskoye, Tolumskoye, Ubinskoye and Fedorovskoye fields were discovered. In the 60s, he led the team to the absolute USSR records for the speed of penetration in exploratory drilling. The brigade won prizes in national competitions 30 times, received the Red Banners of the Mingeo of the RSFSR and the status of the "Best Drilling Brigade" 5 times. As a mentor, Semyon Nikitich has trained more than 50 masters. The memory of the pioneer is immortalized in bronze: a bust by the Volgograd sculptor A.Pugovkina was donated to the city by LUKOIL in 2006.
