The Church in the village of Laryak was built in the 18th century. In 1716, Saint Philotheus (Leshchinsky, and later Kaidalov) arrived on the territory of the Nizhnevartovsk district to convert the natives to Christianity. He went up the Vakh river to the territory of the present settlement of Bolshoy Laryak and baptized the Ostyaks. According to legend, the baptism took place in a lake about 50 kilometers from the Laryak yurts. The spread of Orthodoxy in Siberia also involved the construction of churches for the "newly baptized". In 1751, the first chapel was built for the annual detour of the parish priest on the "Holy places" for Ostyaks. In 1770, it was decided to build a temple. Deacon Yakov Kaidalov was appointed as the parish priest. Since then, the Church of the icon of the mother of God "the Sign" has been rebuilt several times. Since the mid-19th century, the Church had a library and a school, then there were no more than 10 children – baptized Ostyaks. When the Church began to fall into disrepair, it was decided to build a new one. Construction was completed in 1831. With the development of the shipping company, Laryak visited Agafangel (Preobrazhensky) several times, beatified in our time. Even after the October revolution, services were held in the Church. In 1922, a campaign to remove Church valuables to fight the famine took out all valuable items of utensils. 5 bronze bells with a total weight of 342 kilograms were transported to Samarovo. In 1936, a cleric was shot. The Church was closed and sawn for firewood. It was only in 2005 that archaeological excavations began on the site of the Church. In 2016, with the blessing of Metropolitan Pavel of Khanty-Mansiysk and Surgut and with the support of the head of the Nizhnevartovsk district, the restoration of the Church began based on preserved photographs, drawings, and archival descriptions of local historians. The decoration for the Church was collected by old-timers. Parishioners carried lamps, carpets, and other utensils. In the narthex today there is a crucifix from a previously destroyed Church. On June 12, 2019, construction was completed. Metropolitan Paul performed the rite of great consecration and presented an icon with a fragment of Metropolitan Agafangel.
