Monument "To the Conquerors of Samotlor"

The monument to the Conquerors of Samotlor is one of the main symbols of the "oil capital of Russia" — the city of Nizhnevartovsk. This is a monument to the discoverers of one of the largest oil fields in the world — Samotlorsky. He represents the figure of a young worker, wearing appropriate clothes and attributes: a driller's helmet, a high-altitude belt of an installer, a prospector's hammer in his right hand, a bowl with a torch in his left. The monument "To the Conquerors of Samotlor" was opened on July 15, 1978. According to the memoirs of the authors of the monument, work on the project began already in 1969. The customer was the Oil and Gas Production Department of Nizhnevartovskneft named after V.I. Lenin. The performer was the Experimental Sculpture and Production Plant of the Leningrad Organization of the USSR Art Fund. The casting of the figure of the oilman was carried out at the Leningrad experimental art casting plant "Monumentsculpture". Sculptor Ivan Nikolaevich Kostyukhin, architects Yuri Fedorovich Kozhin, Ostap Vasilyevich Vasilenko, as well as architect Lina Ivanovna Korotkevich, designer Vladimir Mikhailovich Ioffe took part in the work on the monument. A time capsule with a message to the residents of Nizhnevartovsk of the XXI century was laid at the foot of the monument in 1984. On August 30, 2018, in the year of the 100th anniversary of the Komsomol and on the eve of the Oil Workers' Day, the capsule was extracted in a solemn atmosphere. A new message has been laid - from the youth of Nizhnevartovsk to the residents of the city in 2048. Residents of Nizhnevartovsk call the monument "Alyosha". Newlyweds are sure to come here on their wedding day to pay tribute to the pioneers of the Samotlor land, tourists are brought to the monument to the "Conquerors of Samotlor" on excursions, and images of the monument can be found on souvenir products of the city.
