Vasily Filippovich Margelov Square

On August 2, on the Day of Airborne Troops, a square named after the legendary commander of the Airborne Forces Vasily Filippovich Margelov was opened in the first microdistrict near the Afganets Center. The initiators of the appearance of the Square in our city were the public organization "Landing Territory" and the Center for Military-patriotic Education and training of citizens for military service "Afghan". As part of the implementation of the All-Russian project "Alley of Russian Glory", busts of Hero of the Soviet Union Vasily Filippovich Margelov and his son Hero of Russia Alexander Vasilyevich Margelov are installed in the park. Vasily Filippovich Margelov is called a man-legend. He is the most famous commander of airborne troops, "Father" - Hero of the Soviet Union, army general, veteran of the Soviet-Finnish and Great Patriotic Wars, participant of the Victory Parade, commanded airborne troops for almost a quarter of a century, turning this branch of the armed forces into a formidable strike force. This man made the Airborne elite troops, who brilliantly proved themselves in the Afghan war and all subsequent armed conflicts. Among Soviet and Russian paratroopers, he remains a cult figure, "Uncle Vasya". It was with him that the Airborne soldiers received blue berets and vests, which became a matter of pride.
