Surgut

The exhibition "The House I live in"

28 October 2026 - 31 October 2027

Surgut has lived in seclusion and in a measured manner for three centuries. But everything changed in the Soviet era with the arrival of geologists. The development of industry required many workers. A massive migration of people to the Tyumen North began, and the population of Surgut began to grow rapidly. People from all over the country came to the Komsomol construction sites in Surgut – experienced specialists, skilled craftsmen and many young enthusiasts. This is a rare case in history when the development of the territory took place at such a high rate.

The exhibition will take visitors into the world of everyday life of Soviet youth who came to work in a fast-growing northern city. The guests will see the household interior of the 1960s and 1980s, archival video newsreels, photographs and objects from the collection of the Surgut Museum of Local Lore. The exhibition will tell about how people from different parts of the country built a city, settled their way of life and became residents of Surgut.
