Khanty-Mansiysk is the capital of Ugra, a small, cozy and developed city with a population of over 100,000 people. It is located on the Irtysh River and is surrounded by the incredibly picturesque Samarovsky Chugas Nature Park. If you are a fan of hiking and found yourself in Khanty-Mansiysk for only 3 hours, you will have time to see an impressive part of the sights. So, let's go for a walk around the central part of the city.

Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ and Slavyanskaya Square Park of Slavic Literature and Culture

We suggest starting the route by visiting the territory of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ. It is located on the highest point of the central part of Khanty-Mansiysk. This is one of the most beautiful places in the city.

The temple is crowned with 5 golden domes with crosses. Nearby is a 62–meter-high bell tower with the largest bell in Yugra weighing 10 tons.

After visiting the cathedral, go to the territory of the Temple complex. It includes the Slavyanskaya Square Park of Slavic literature and culture, a place that you will definitely like.

Enjoy the beauty of the fountains that work here in the summer, and see the monument to the enlighteners of the Slavs, Saints Cyril and Methodius, Equal-to-the-Apostles. Don't forget to take a photo against the backdrop of the city panorama. Then go down the stairs and look at the sculptures on the theme of the 10 Biblical commandments along the way.

Ugra State University

Then continue walking. From the Temple, turn right and walk a little straight to the building of Ugra State University. You can enter the territory or stop at the main facade. The monument "Teacher and Student" is located on the site in front of the central building. The composition features two bronze sculptures of the ancient Greek philosophers Socrates and Plato. Museum of Geology, Oil and Gas

The Museum of Geology, Oil and Gas, the only publicly accessible museum of this kind in Russia, is located opposite Ugra University. His fund includes 36,000 items. This is a unique collection of minerals, objects reflecting the history of the development of the oil and gas industry in the district, geological prospecting, an extensive resource fund, paleontological finds on the territory of the Khanty–Mansi Autonomous Okrug, and even equipment used in their work by geologists and oilmen. Of course, it will not be possible to inspect everything at one time. Especially when time is limited.

In any case, you can admire the unusual architecture of the building and explore the memorial "Stars of Ugra". A series of commemorative signs in the form of stars with the names of prominent figures of the district were placed on the main facade.

Monument "The Bronze symbol of Ugra"

From the Museum of Geology, Oil and Gas, turn right, walk a few dozen meters and pay attention to the monument "The Bronze Symbol of Ugra". The 12-meter-tall female figure symbolizes Yugra and motherhood, which unites everyone.: indigenous people, oil workers, scientists, adults and children. Boris Losev Park

After examining the monument, turn right again and cross the road – you are in Boris Losev Park. After passing the playground, head straight to the center of the park. There is an unusual fountain "Ob and Irtysh", which reaches a height of 16 meters. Sculptures of representatives of the Ugra wildlife are placed on the granite "rock". The continuation is the cascade of three fountains "Pisces". There are walking paths in the shade of lush birch trees and a small pond with a beautiful gazebo. 

It's impossible not to fall in love with this place. Every corner is a location for photography.

Ugra-Classic Shopping Mall

Leaving the park through the central entrance with columns and mosaics, pay attention to the building opposite – this is the Ugra-Classic Concert and Theater center. The main value contained in it is a unique large brass organ. Its keyboard is decorated with mammoth bone — it is one of a kind. The organ itself was made by a well-known German company. In general, the entire organ structure weighs 10 tons and reaches 8 meters in height. This musical instrument at Ugra-Classic has become a great incentive for the development of concert activities in Khanty-Mansiysk and the district. 

More than 60 well-known performers from 17 countries performed in Khanty-Mansiysk as part of the "Organ Map of Europe" and "Chief Organists of European Cathedrals" subscriptions.

Museum of Nature and Man

Further along the route is the Museum of Nature and Man. It was founded in 1932 and, like most buildings in the center of Khanty-Mansiysk, impresses with its unusual architecture. But what's inside fascinates tourists even more. 

Thanks to the museum's exhibitions, you can learn a lot about Ugra – from nature, flora and fauna to the traditions of indigenous peoples. But the main thing worth visiting here is the monumental skeletons of a mammoth and a steppe elephant, a cave bear, as well as life–size models of a bison and a woolly rhinoceros. 

However, the most unique exhibit is a real woolly mammoth vertebra with a hole from an ancient man's hunting tool.

Victory Park

Victory Park is located on the opposite side of the road from the Museum of Nature and Man. Here you can take a picture near a real T-34-76 tank that participated in the battles. 

Consider the Memorial of Glory with the sculpture "Mourning" in the center. Read the names of Ugra residents who did not return from the war. In total, more than 3 thousand people are registered here. And on the way to the exit from the park there is an Alley of Glory – more than a dozen busts of Khanty-Mansi people who received the title of Heroes of the Soviet Union.

Peoples' Friendship House and the Ob-Ugric Peoples' Theater "The Sun"

When leaving the park, pay attention to the blue building on the right – this is the Peoples' Friendship House. It houses the main stage of the unique theater of the Ob-Ugric peoples "The Sun". Its main goal is the preservation and development of folklore, as well as the spiritual culture of indigenous peoples. Therefore, the repertoire for the most part consists of performances based on the folklore of the Ob Ugrians and the works of modern authors, carriers of national culture. 

The troupe also includes representatives of the indigenous peoples of Ugra.

Rotonda Fountain

By this point, you will probably have noticed a large fountain in the very center of the square. Its name is "Rotunda". This is the first fountain that appeared in Khanty-Mansiysk. The theme of the building is space. In the center of the composition is a symbol of the planet Earth, which is washed by 32 water jets. Well, the dome in the form of a flying saucer is supported by columns according to the number of known planets of the solar system. And 12 more columns surrounding the fountain symbolize the 12 months. The decoration of the composition is a mosaic "Wind Rose".

Gostiny Dvor Shopping Center

A little further from the fountain is the Gostiny Dvor shopping center, which attracts attention with its architecture. It is made in the form of the national dwelling of the Ob Ugrians – the plague. The building is decorated with stained glass windows, columns and mosaic decor. There are many shops inside.

Ugra Government Building

Well, on the left side of the fountain "Rotonda" you can see the white building of the Government of Ugra. This is where the Governor of the region works. Now the path will run past the Government Building – through an underground passage – to the opposite side of the street, where the State Art Museum is located nearby.

The State Art Museum

In addition to the beautiful architecture, the museum has an impressive collection of paintings. Some of them returned from private collections, and were also purchased at the famous London auctions Sotheby's and Christie's. Here you can see icons of the XV–XVI centuries, paintings by F.S. Rokotova, V.A. Tropinin, I. E. Repin, I. K. Aivazovsky, V.I. Surikov, I. I. Levitan and many other famous artists.

Ugra District Library

The majestic building of the Ugra State Library is located next to the museum. A couple of steps and you're there. All the local history documents of the region and an impressive collection of publications – 264,000 copies - are stored here. 

But when time is limited, it's worth visiting the library for an interesting photo near an art object in the form of a huge typewriter, which is located in the lobby of the first floor.

Faberge Egg Fountain

We suggest finishing the three—hour walking tour near the beautiful Faberge Egg fountain, which is the only structure of its kind in Russia. It is located on the territory of the Art Center for Gifted Children of the North. The 6-meter-high egg is decorated with glass mosaics with national Ugra ornaments. Mosaic combined with water on a sunny day shimmers beautifully in the sun, which will allow you to take stunning photos for memory.

The National Center "Russia" was opened in Khanty-Mansiysk on December 16, 2025 and is one of the first five regional branches of the National Center "Russia" in the country. It was created on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, as part of a federal initiative to develop regional cultural centers.

Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug — Yugra is the energy heart of Russia. It combines unique nature, careful preservation of centuries-old traditions of indigenous peoples, industrial might and a bold look into the future. The loon bird, a sacred image for the indigenous peoples of the North, became the symbol of the NC "Russia" in Yugra. According to legend, diving to the bottom of the primordial ocean, the loon brought the earth in its beak, from which the land appeared.

The park is made mainly of wood and other natural materials, harmoniously integrated into the natural landscape. The garden also has interactive stands about the local flora and fauna, a small parkour area and an amphitheater. Even bugs found a place - a special house was built for them.

The city residents note that the garden has become a real oasis in the urban environment - a space where you can feel one with nature and take a break from the hustle and bustle.

In 2022, the team thought: what if we rethink the very philosophy of this place? Make it truly open - one where you can read under the sky, unite in communities, initiate your own events.

This is how the "Timeline" was born - a street space wrapping around the courtyard, created in collaboration with the city's creative community. Guests are invited to walk through five thematic zones reflecting the key eras of human history: from the primitive world to antiquity, from medieval romanticism to modern times. The final point of the route is the timeless book courtyard - a place for silence, relaxation and leisurely reading.

The townspeople note that it has become a real cultural center - alive, inspiring and accessible. Sometimes there is a DJ set here, sometimes there are lectures or open-air sessions, but at any time you can just sit down with a book and be alone with yourself.

Chamber Theatre "23"

Concert and Theatre Centre "Yugra-Classic"

"Ugra-Classic" has three halls. The large 1000-seat hall with a stalls, an amphitheater, a balcony and side boxes - here the most large-scale events take place. In the studio hall "Transformer" the most daring innovative directorial ideas are realized. And in the Organ Hall chamber concerts are held.

It was here that the king of instruments - the unique organ of the German company "Loganes Klais Orgelbau" - sounded. One of its main features are the white keys of three manuals. They are decorated with the bone of a baby mammoth that lay in permafrost for more than 500 thousand years.

Boris Losev Park

Pedestrian paths, bike routes, sports and play areas make the park a truly universal place - for walks, meetings, activity and silence. In the summer, festivals and fairs are held here, in the winter everything is transformed by festive illumination - the park lives in the rhythm of the city all year round.

In the depths of the park, a small lake with a gazebo and a cozy playground is hidden - a favorite place for family walks.

Particular attention is drawn to the fountain complex "Ob and Irtysh" - a 16-meter composition of granite and bronze, decorated with sculptures of animals of Yugra. In the evening, the lighting turns the fountain into a star galaxy, reflected in the streams of water. Nearby are three small fountains with images of fish living in Siberian rivers.

And one of the park's areas, popularly known as "Skovorodka", holds a special urban history. It was once a favorite open-air dance area - a place of meetings, youth and first music. And today it remains an important point on the map of urban memories.
