Sherkaly settlement 1

the settlement of sherkaly is located in the vicinity of the village of sherkaly in the oktyabrsky district. This monument of ancient history is unique in its multi-layered nature. According to the preservation, diversity and originality of the finds, as well as the power of cultural strata, the settlement deserves the name «Northern Novgorod». Mentions of the settlement date back to 1740 in the notes of the historian G. F. Miller, who was the first to describe the history of Siberia. Scientists returned to the study of this place only in 1965. At this time, archaeologist L. G. Shorikova is conducting a survey in the settlement, which named the monument «Sherkaly 1 Settlement». further excavations were carried out in the period 1979-1983, about which publications have been preserved. Then interest in the settlement faded and resumed only at the beginning of the two thousandth. The settlement is listed as a cultural heritage site and is under protection. According to some elements of the architectural layout of houses and stone stoves that were found on the territory, there are analogies even in the north of Russia – among the Slavs of the modern Novgorod and Pskov regions. We can only assume that in the X–XI centuries, the population for some reason made the transition from the Northern Kama region to this territory. Material evidence of the ties of the Koda Principality with the territories of the Northern Urals, the Upper Kama Region and the north-west of Russia (the Novgorod Republic) is revealed. analysis of the findings suggests that it was here that the population of modern komi-zyryans was formed. The name «Sherkaly» is formed from the word «shorkar», which means «middle town» in Zyryan. The town really resembles a fortified settlement, a military trading post. currently, the excavations have been resumed. To preserve the objects found on the territory of the excavations, there is a laboratory where objects are preserved and restored. Today, a unique object can be visited by anyone.
