Church of St. Euthymius the Great

The Church of St. Euthymius the Great in the village of Shapsha is one of the oldest and most important for Orthodox Christians of the Khanty-Mansiysk region. After all, this church has an amazing history. In the 30s of the last century, services were stopped in all churches in Western Siberia. Church buildings were dismantled, domes and crosses were removed, and the premises were given for economic and administrative needs. And only in the church of St. Euthymius the Great services continued until the 1950s. This was facilitated by the courage of the parishioners of the Orthodox community, who sent a letter to a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU(b) M. I. Kalinin with a request not to close the church. During the great Orthodox holidays, parishioners from all the surrounding villages came to the church for solemn services. The church was closed only in 1958, and the abbot, Abbot Parfeny (Nevmerzhitsky), was sent to Tobolsk. Then the building suffered the fate of all the district churches. in 1960, it was converted into a village club. In 1980, it completely burned down due to an oversight of the club's employees. Until the two thousandth years, there was no temple in the village of Shapsha. In 2014, with the blessing of Metropolitan Paul of Khanty-Mansiysk and Surgut, a parish was registered in honor of Euthymius the Great. In the autumn of the same year, the foundation stone of the church was consecrated. March 1, 2015 consecration of domes and on 22 November, the day of icon of mother of God «quick to hearken», to the delight of the residents of the village Shapsha the Church held its first Liturgy.
