Surgut

Merchant's estate. The House of Galaktion Stepanovich Klepikov

How well–to-do Surgut residents lived in the XIX - early XX century, you will find out for sure by visiting the house of Galaktion Stepanovich Klepikov. This is the only historic house in the city that still stands on the site of its original construction. It was in this part of Surgut that the family of the mayor of the city administration was once located. What was their daily life, now everyone can see. The house houses a museum of merchant life. The manor building is an architectural monument and is striking already from the facade. Its main feature is the mixing of different styles, when luxurious elements of decoration are adjacent to the simplest. And although this house survived the placement of many organizations, fire and devastation, according to archival documents it was restored close to the original. For example, the color scheme of the facade was exactly like this during the life of the owner. The interior of the rooms also had to be recreated by the museum staff, having studied historical documents. It fully corresponds to the life of wealthy people of this historical period. Legends also go around this house. According to one of them, museum staff find objects out of place, crushed beds and even hear footsteps. Interestingly, experts managed to beat even such urban rumors and created a special «Haunted House» tour for young residents. Since 2005, the house of G. S. Klepikov has been part of the Surgut Museum of Local Lore as a characteristic example of Siberian architecture.
