Surgut
Monument to Cyril and Methodius
The main symbol of Surgut state University is a monument to the founders of the Slavic alphabet, Cyril and Methodius. It is located at the entrance to the invitation square of the educational institution. It is believed that these saints are the patron saints of the University.
The monument was erected at the suggestion of the first rector of this University, Georgy Nazin. And the idea was realized by the famous Ugra sculptor Volodya Sargsyan. His work can be seen in many cities of the district. Surgut is no exception.
The monument is made in the form of a gate located in front of the main entrance to Surga. The columns are decorated with bronze sculptures of saints Cyril and Methodius. The entire composition forms an aerial cross-a symbol of Orthodoxy. According to the creators, immediately after entering as a rite of passage, students pass through the gates, as if entering the University, and after graduation they go out of them into the big life.
The organizers timed the installation and opening of the monument to coincide with the celebrations in honor of the 20th anniversary of Surgut University, as well As the days of Slavic writing.
